HOME SAVER REBATES

TO 'GREEN YOUR HOME'

Both Federal and NSW Governments have made funding available to encourage homeowners (and in some cases renters and landlords) to 'green their home' and reduce energy and water use.  A summary of current grants is provided below to help you access these opportunities and links  are provided to the state and federal funding bodies.  As funding arrangements continually change, it is recommended that you contact the funding body directly to ascertain your elegibility and ensure you have the most up to date information on all grants.

Federal Government

  • Ceiling Insulation - Update:  On February 19, 2010 the Federal Government discontinued the home insulation program due to safety concerns for home owners and workers.  Inquiries regarding the program, including safety concerns should be directed to the Federal Government on 1800 808 571.
  • Solar Hot Water - rebate of up to $1,000 to help eligible home-owners, landlords or tenants replace their electric storage hot water systems with solar hot water systems; or up to $600 for replacement with heat pump systems.
  • Home Sustainability Assessments - Provision of free Home Sustainability Assessments.
  • National Rainwater and Greywater Initiative - rebates of up to $500 for households to install rainwater tanks or greywater systems.

NSW Government

  • Rainwater tank rebate - up to $1500 for rainwater tanks connected to a toilet and washing machine
  • Hot water system rebate - up to $300 to switch from electric to solar, heat pump or 5 star gas hot water systems
  • Hot water circulator unit rebate - $150 for installing a hot water circulator unit for instantaneous gas hot water heaters
  • Toilet suite rebate - $200 for a 4 star dual flush toilet suite to replace a single flush toilet
  • Solar Bonus Scheme - will credit participating customers with a "gross" feed-in tariff rate of 60 cents per klowatt hour for all the electricity that their eligible solar photovoltaic (PV) system or wind turbine generates.  The Scheme commenced on 1 January 2010 and will operate for  7 years.

Note:  There is a $1500 cap per property for total NSW Home Saver Rebates offered by the NSW Government.

Note: Hot water systems, insulation or rainwater tanks installed to comply with BASIX (the Building Sustainability Index) for new homes and major renovations may not be eligible for a rebate.

Other grants

Sutherland Shire Council also supports the following program:

  • Fridge Buyback - up to $35 to have a secondhand working fridge removed from your home (where Fridge Buyback is available).   Hotline: 1800 708 401
